It turns out Aussie guys are terrified of doctors.
Mosh has just released its first consumer report, surveying more than 2000 Aussie men, and one thing is clear; Aussie guys don’t have the greatest relationship with their humble GP. Nearly half of all men admit they have kept a health issue from their family and GP.

Most men don’t even have a regular GP.
37 percent of blokes just pick whichever doctor is available
It isn’t hard to see a link between these lack of relationships and men’s inability to open up. That stands to reason especially with taboo issues like erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.

A big driver of this behaviour? Shame.
72 percent of blokes have been embarrassed by a health condition.
The fact is that some health issues are easier to talk about than others, particularly when those issues are tied to traditional markers of masculinity, like hair loss, sexual health and mental health.

In fact, 43% of guys are embarrassed to talk face to face with a GP
43% of blokes are embarrassed to talk face to face with a GP.
48% choose to ignore the problem and hope for the best.
Even in 2023, the “she’ll be right” mentality persists, with men figuring “it will get better over time” as a chief reason to ignore health issues. But feeling embarrassed to talk face to face with a GP is a close second.

But many guys feel more comfortable opening up online
23% of guys feel more comfortable opening up to a GP online.
Nearly a quarter of men see telehealth as a more comfortable way to speak to a doctor, while more than a third prefer telehealth in general. Because some of the issues guys have at the doctor aren’t confined to embarrassment.

Many of the other issues guys have with the doctor could be solved by telehealth.
Nearly 75% of guys find convenience the biggest barrier to going to the doctor.
Aussie guys are living a busy lifestyle in 2023, and more than half of respondents found wait times and the lack of out of hours appointments as a key issue with seeing the GP. Another quarter found it difficult to find a good GP to work with.
Mosh was initially founded to make it easier for guys to take care of their health and personal appearance, and our 100% online service is a big part of that, with no travel time, waiting rooms or closing hours, it’s easier for guys to seek help for a range of issues.
