What's the difference between the three mental health plans available through Mosh?

We offer three plans to suit each individual's needs.

  • Medication only - From $60 per month, receive a 1 month supply of your mental health medications, plus automatic refills every 1 - 3 months. Includes unlimited follow-up doctor consultations. This subscription is currently only available if you have been prescribed medication in the past 12 months.
  • Therapy only – No out of pocket costs when you see a bulk billing psychologist on the Mosh platform with a valid MHCP (additional fees may apply when you choose to see a non-bulk billing psychologist). Use a handy filtering tool to help you match with the right psychologist. You can choose and book in with your psychologist through our portal after you complete a short questionnaire.
  • Medication and Therapy – You get the value of both the Medication and Therapy plan from just $60 per month.
How often will I need to check in with a doctor?
  • Therapy - If you opted for a plan including therapy, you will need to revisit your regular GP (not a doctor on the Mosh platform) after your 6th and 10th psychology session to get access to additional psychology sessions under your MHCP.
  • Medication - If you select a plan including medication, we will prompt you to check in with a doctor on the Mosh platform periodically.
What is a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)?

In Australia, Medicare offers rebates for 20 individual therapy sessions within a year with a 'Mental Health Treatment Plan' (otherwise known as a 'Mental Health Care Plan'). This means the government will cover $80 – $130 (depending on your therapist’s specialisation) towards each session. To access this benefit through Mosh, you need to upload your MHCP and a referral letter from your GP at least 24 hours before your psychologist session. If you don't, your card on file will be charged for a non-Medicare session ($150).

MHCP referrals are valid for 1 year from the date of the referral. If you have already used your 20 therapy sessions under an existing MHCP to see a psychologist, you can go online or call Medicare on 13 21 50 to check how many sessions are left. You can also get in touch with us at [email protected] and we’d be happy to help.

Can a Mosh doctor prescribe medications and write a MHCP?

If you have opted for a medication plan, Mosh doctors can only prescribe medication if your regular GP has prescribed you that medication in the previous 12 months.

Mosh doctors cannot write MHCPs due to Medicare requirements. To get a MHCP, you will need to book an in-person appointment with your regular GP. However, many clients book an appointment with a psychologist first and then visit their doctor in the intervening period to get the MHCP and a referral. A MHCP must be uploaded to the Mosh platform at least 24 hours before your session.

If I choose a therapy plan, what's the difference between a clinical, registered and bulk billed psychologist?

All our psychologists are individually vetted, qualified and Australian. However, there are some differences between their specialisation and how they charge for their services.

Registered psychologists usually have at least four years of university training and two years’ supervised experience. Clinical psychologists have undertaken additional university qualifications and supervised training in the area of clinical psychology. Both registered and clinical psychologists must also participate in regular education to keep their knowledge and skills up to date, meaning they are both highly qualified to provide you with their services.

If a psychologist has chosen to 'bulk bill', it means they are claiming the Medicare rebate (if you choose to assign it to them) as full payment for their services and you pay $0 (provided you have uploaded a valid MHCP and referral letter at least 24 hours before your session). A few have chosen to bulk bill to provide affordability to their patients during these tough times.
